Tenants may be evicted for landlord's failure to pay assessments

Changes to Florida law become effective July 1, 2010 that adversly affect tenant's rights. Tenants can be evicted from their homes even if they are current with their rental payments if their landlord fails to make homeowners or condominium assessment payments. Renters should be careful to protect themselves with appropriate lease terms. Tenants should also check to make sure that the property they are leasing is not in foreclosure before they sign a lease and periodically during the term of the lease so they can take protective measures.
